CRNM is the National Migration Registry card, mandatory for all migrants with a temporary visa and, above all, for those who wish to live in the country.

Popularly known as the foreigner's document or identity, the CRNM is the National Migration Registry card, mandatory for all migrants with a temporary visa and, above all, for those who wish to live in the country. The card has important information such as: full name, photo, date of birth, issuance and validity of the document, identity number, RNM and legal basis of your residence permit.

The CRNM can be classified as temporary or permanent, depending on the legal support. The legal protection is the “justification” of the foreigner's residence in Brazil. For example: Family reunion (union between foreigners and Brazilians), work, studies, investment, among others.

CRNM and RNE are the same document. Before the Migration Law of 2017, the Foreigner's Card was called RNE and after the law it was called RNM. The Migration Law started to call the foreigner a migrant, therefore RNE is the National Foreigner Registry, while the RNM is the National Migration Registry.

What is CRNM?

The acronym CRNM (Carteira de Registro Nacional Migratório) is the new nomenclature for RNE (National Migratory Registry).

According to the Federal Police (PF) this particular nomenclature was changed in 2019. Therefore, the old acronym “RNE” is no longer used. However, many people are still looking for it.

This document is extremely important for any foreigner who wants to reside in Brazil. The CRNM is a mandatory ID for every immigrant living in Brazil.

This document must be requested by all foreigners who intend to stay in Brazil longer than the limit established by law. In addition, the document will contain all the personal information and biometric data of the immigrant.
