Minister Alexandre de Moraes , of the STF, is the target of a lawsuit in the United States, brought by the company Trump Media and the video platform Rumble, under the allegation of violation of American sovereignty.
The case is being processed in one of the districts of the Federal Court in Florida and challenges the minister's order to suspend blogger Allan dos Santos' account on the platform.
The information comes from Folha de S.Paulo and the American newspaper The New York Times.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes is the target of a lawsuit in the US after ordering the suspension of Allan dos Santos' account on a video platform.
Takedown orders
The imbroglio began in October 2021, when Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, ordered the preventive arrest of blogger Allan dos Santos, in addition to the suspension of his accounts on social media, including the video platform Rumble.
Allan dos Santos is being investigated by the Supreme Federal Court for spreading misinformation and attacking the Court's ministers. Despite the arrest warrant, the United States, the country where the YouTuber resides, denied his extradition request in March 2022.
Furthermore, Rumble, a video sharing platform similar to YouTube, refused to comply with the order to suspend Allan dos Santos' account, claiming that it had no representation in Brazil and that the orders violated US law.
In February 2025, the minister again issued orders against the company, demanding that Allan dos Santos' account be permanently closed worldwide.
The new ruling has prompted Trump Media, a media company linked to US President Donald Trump, to join forces with Rumble to file a joint lawsuit in US courts in February 2025.
Lawyers for the companies argue that Moraes’s decisions violate U.S. sovereignty and the First Amendment to the Constitution, which protects freedom of expression. Trump Media also claims that restrictions on Rumble in Brazil affect Truth Social, which relies on its services.
