A lawyer was physically and verbally assaulted while performing her duties by a clerk at the Police Station in the District of Acara. The incident took place on the 18th.

Oliveira said she went to the police station to file a police report after a car accident involving her family. At the scene, she demanded that the driver who allegedly caused the accident be given a breathalyzer test, but the request was denied by the clerk, which is why the argument began.

The Federal Council of the OAB expressed solidarity with the lawyer, stating that the act of violence also disrespects the professional prerogatives of the colleague, constituting a serious attack on the legal profession and the Justice system. The president of the Order,  Simonetti, stated that the lawyer will have the full support of the Federal Council and the entire OAB system, seeking to have the appropriate measures adopted and to hold those involved accountable.

The OAB/PA Court of Defense of Prerogatives approved the holding of a public and in-person redress in favor of the assaulted lawyer. The act will be held on October 29 at the Civil Police station in Acara.

This regrettable episode represents an attack not only against the physical and moral integrity of the lawyer, but also against the full exercise of the legal profession, which is essential to guarantee fundamental rights and justice in our country. We vehemently repudiate any act of violence, especially those motivated by gender issues, which undermine the integrity and dignity of women. The OAB/PA reaffirms its commitment to tirelessly combat gender violence, defending the rights and prerogatives of all female lawyers in Pará, and promoting an environment of respect and equity in the practice of law.

The case will be forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for the Defense of State Prerogatives.

Furthermore, Bill 212/24 is currently being processed , which includes qualified homicide against lawyers in the Penal Code and provides for an increase in the penalty for bodily harm committed against legal professionals.
