A man identified as one of the leaders of an online torture and rape scheme, carried out through chat rooms on the messaging app Discord, was sentenced to 24 years and seven months in prison, initially in a closed regime. The sentence was handed down by the Special Criminal Court in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro.

 

Pedro Ricardo  da Rocha, known as "King", 19 years old,  has been in prison since July 2023, when he was the target of a Civil Police operation. The crimes of criminal association, qualified and collective rape and rape of a vulnerable person occurred, according to the investigation, between August 2021 and March 2023, on the platform that allows people to communicate in live video broadcasts.

 

The victims were coerced with threats of leaking hacked intimate photos and videos, and became "sex slaves" for the leaders of these groups. The criminals convinced them to practice self-mutilation, physical degradation, intimate exposure, bestiality and other lewd acts.

 

According to investigations, virtual rapes were committed, which were broadcast live to all members of the server.

  Discord is a communication platform primarily focused on creating online communities. Originally popular among gamers, the app has expanded to accommodate a wide range of interests and groups. It offers features such as text, voice, and video chat, as well as allowing the creation of "servers" - dedicated spaces where users can gather and interact on specific topics.

 

The ruling highlights that Rocha treated the internet as a "lawless land", leading a platform that distributed illicit material, including pornography, animal abuse, bullying and incitement to self-harm.

 

" The evidence gathered reveals that his actions were morally unlimited. He offended his victims, insulted them, humiliated them and always maintained the mandatory aspect of obedience to his bizarre and perverted desires, not caring about their suffering ," says the decision.

 

The document also mentions that, "as 'owner' of the 'SYSTEM X' platform, on Discord, the defendant replicated and amplified the worst that exists in society, believing that by hiding behind masks, bandanas and other subterfuges, he could go unpunished indefinitely, as if someone could remain beyond the reach of the authorities or above the law."
