The Judiciary system of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), through the National Council of Justice, is carrying out a joint effort in several locations with the aim of issuing documents to victims of the floods.
They are judges, judges, public defenders, registrars, state employees and volunteers, mobilized to help people who have lost their original documents to identify themselves. More than 500 people have already been helped!
Those involved spend time in shelters collecting data and helping those who need new documentation. The data is sent to the civil registry offices, where the second copy of identity cards, CPFs and marriage and birth registration certificates will be issued.
Complicated scenario
According to Judge Felipe , from the General Inspectorate of Justice of Rio Grande do Sul, the scenario in the State is post-war.
“Rio Grande do Sul is currently experiencing a post-war scenario. In this sense, the Judiciary can restore hope and citizenship to these people, starting with document regularization.”
The initiative also involves the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC), associations of extrajudicial notary offices in Rio Grande do Sul (Arpen ), the Social Plan Management Committee – Civil Birth Registry and Basic Documentation, and also the Federal Police, focused on service to foreigners.
How to request help
The mobilization takes place in several emergency shelters in Rio Grande do Sul.
To request help, you must provide your details to campaign volunteers and fill out a form.
With the victims' data in hand, volunteers forward the material to civil registry offices in the region.
Thus, it is possible to issue 2nd copies of documents such as identity cards, CPFs, birth registration certificates and more.
Help with searches
In addition to the document issuance campaign, judicial professionals are also assisting in the search and reunion of family members.
“There are hundreds of people worried about their family members, as they are unable to get in touch, they don't even know if the place where their relatives live was affected. Some have lost their cell phone and do not have the contacts to call or send a message,” said judge Maria da Silva.
For judge Juliana Cardoso, acting as a volunteer in the joint effort is more than a jurisdictional task.
“We have spoken individually with citizens explaining the importance of issuing documents to access a benefit. But not only that. We are there to listen to people and give a word of comfort.”
