The Indian city of Bengaluru is experiencing a serious water crisis, but the solution to saving water came from the hands of children from schools in the region.
Led by environmentalist Hariharan Chandrashekhar, the little ones have already managed to save more than 34 million liters of water.
The class focuses on collecting and storing rainwater, using rain gauges to monitor precipitation, and treating and reusing wastewater. Incredible, isn't it?
Water crisis
The megacity of Bengaluru is very crowded in the summer months and citizens are taught to save water.
But it was with the help of students that things improved.
A series of mass diggings of wells very quickly depleted the water supply in the region.
In total, there are 8.5 million inhabitants and 40 schools within the city.
The system couldn't handle it and collapsed, leaving thousands without water.
Educating children
It was then that environmentalist Hariharan had an idea. Work the base.
Children are the future of the nation, correct? So nothing better than teaching them from a young age.
Entitled Rain Reach, the program served to educate children aged 9 to 15 about water conservation.

Sustainability in schools
With the help of the children, Hariharan implemented a water collection system in several local schools, which was responsible for saving 34 million liters of water.
Additionally, rainfall weather stations and digital gauges were installed to help students measure precipitation.
Children also routinely receive classes on water conservation and how to care for the systems and technologies implemented.
Man also began treating local sewage and later using it for applications such as agriculture.
