Support the planning of the irrigated agriculture sector and the expansion of this activity, enabling the generation of employment and income in several regions of the country. This is the objective of the National Irrigation Information System (Sinir), which will be built based on a partnership between the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR), the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Map) and the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA).
On Tuesday (13), the Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, participated in the beginning of the work for the elaboration of the tool, which is expected to be concluded in 2022, but with some modules being implemented already in July this year.
“This system will be fundamental to stimulate the expansion of the irrigated area in Brazil, currently estimated at 10 million hectares. We can multiply that number by seven, reaching 70 million hectares, without deforestation ”, said Marinho. “We are going to generate jobs and development in the poorest regions, promoting the emancipation of people through work. With the National Irrigation Policy, we will enable the generation of wealth in fertile land, but which are currently underutilized, especially in the Northeast. ”
Sinir aims to collect, process, store and retrieve information related to irrigated agriculture. The idea is that the platform will serve to subsidize government decisions for the conduction of the National Irrigation Policy (PNI), in addition to assisting the productive sector. Among the information that will be granted are the availability of soil, data on the productive market and infrastructure to support production.
National Irrigation Policy
Sinir is one of the instruments of the National Irrigation Policy, which is in charge of the MDR. PNI aims to organize the legal framework for the management of projects in the area, having as main guideline the induction of efficiency in the use of water resources. The text also reinforces strategies for the development of irrigated agriculture, with a view to sustainable productivity increase and the reduction of climatic risks in agriculture, in addition to recommending partnerships between the public and private sectors in order to expand the irrigated area in the country.
