The Judiciary, as guardian of justice and equity, must lead not only in enforcing laws, but also in building an environment that reflects the true diversity of the society it serves.

The path to gender equality in the Judiciary is complex, but it cannot be delayed. Despite several initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality, the panorama of female representation in the country's Courts reveals an intriguing paradox.

In fact, despite the implementation of policies aimed at inserting women into positions, the path towards equality continues to stretch in the face of persistent challenges.

The most recent figures from the courts indicate an increase in the absolute number of female judges. However, the apparent paradox lies in the maintenance of the 25% proportion, suggesting a sad stability in female representation, despite quantitative advances.

A survey carried out by Migalhas in 2023 showed that there were 617 female representatives acting as judges and ministers in the Brazilian Courts, in a total of 2,477 positions, that is, 25%.

When updating the survey, just under a year later, we see that the number has increased. There are currently 651 women in positions, in a total of 2,549 seats. However, these numbers still represent the same 25% as before.

Among the higher courts, the TST comes out ahead with 27% of women in its composition. Next comes TSE, STJ, STF and STM.

Currently, including all the Superior Courts of Brasília, and already considering the retirement of minister Assusete, from the STJ (published today in the Official Gazette). there are a total of 95 ministers, only 17 of whom are women. The number represents a tiny 18% of the total.

Regarding TRFs, the one in the 3rd region has the highest percentage: 27%. In the state competitions, the highest step on the podium goes to TJ/PA, which has 53% women in its composition.

Finally, among the TRTs, the one in the 17th region has the most women in the seats occupied by female judges, with 58%.
