Federal Government transfers another R$ 5.1 million for the continuity of sanitation works in nine states

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR), will transfer R$ 5.1 million for the continuity of basic sanitation works in nine states of the country. Municipalities in Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Sul, Sergipe and Roraima will benefit.
The largest transfer, of more than R$ 2.22 million, will be destined to Rorainópolis, in Roraima. The resources will be used in the implementation of the Sanitary Sewage System (SES) of the municipality. Still in the North Region, the city of Vilhena, in Rondônia, will have more than R$ 953 thousand for the expansion and readjustment of the Water Supply System (SAA) and implementation of the SES in the urban perimeter of the municipal headquarters.
Also in the North Region, the city of Ananindeua, in Pará, will have R$ 24,400 available for the expansion of the SAA in the Águas Lindas neighborhood.
In the Northeast, the municipality of Camaçari, in Bahia, will receive more than R$ 339 thousand for the expansion of the sanitary sewage system in Arembepe. In Pernambuco, the municipality of Olinda will have more than R$731 thousand for the expansion of the SES of the Janga Basin.
Still in the Northeast, the municipality of Lagarto, in Sergipe, will receive more than R$ 262 thousand for the expansion of the integrated water supply system of the Piauitinga pipeline.
In the Southeast Region, the city of Viçosa, in Minas Gerais, there will be more than R$324 thousand available for the expansion of the SES at the municipal headquarters.
In the Midwest, the city of Águas Lindas de Goiás will have more than R$ 262 thousand for Integrated sanitation works in Jardim América II, III, IV, V and VI and Parque das Águas Bonitas.
Finally, the municipality of Santa Rosa, in Rio Grande do Sul, will have more than R$ 4 thousand for the elaboration of a design study and engineering projects for the management of urban solid waste and rainwater management at the municipal headquarters.
New Legal Framework
With the sanction of the new Legal Framework for Sanitation, which will complete two years in July, the Federal Government aims to achieve the universalization of basic sanitation services 2033, ensuring that 99% of the Brazilian population has access to drinking water and 90% , treatment and sewage collection.
Investments in 2022
Since January of this year, R$ 286.3 million have already been committed from the General Budget of the Union (OGU) and R$ 197.7 million have been transferred to ensure the continuity of basic sanitation projects throughout the country. Another R$504.4 million was paid for financing through the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS).
Currently, the ministry's portfolio of works and projects in the sector - active contracts and projects in progress or not yet started - is 1,035 projects, totaling R$ 41.8 billion, of which R$ 25.1 billion in financing and R$ 16.6 billion from the General Budget of the Union.
