An unprecedented initiative by the Federal Government will establish actions to combat drug trafficking in Brazil and care for users with a focus on social reintegration and humane treatment. It is the National Drug Policy Plan (Planned), launched on Wednesday (06/22), during the opening of the 24th National Drug Policy Week, in Brasília.
Signed by the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), together with the Ministry of Citizenship, and unanimously approved by Conad at the end of May, the document brings together actions by the Ministries of Justice and Public Security, the Health, Education, Economy, Defense, Foreign Affairs and Women, Family and Human Rights.

The initiative changes the bias of public actions: the security forces expand the work of repression and the other bodies include the treatment of addicts in programs that generate opportunities for work outside of crime.
This is the case with recovery centers that welcome users. "We signed prevention and joint action protocols here. The government invests and believes in the work of the 684 therapeutic communities in Brazil. More than 200,000 families were assisted and had help so that users had a new life", reinforced the Minister of Citizenship, Ronaldo Bento.
According to the National Secretary for Policies on Drugs and Asset Management (Senad/MJSP), Paulo Gustavo Maiurino, licit drugs such as alcohol, tobacco, and legal medications are also on the radar of prevention. “Drug use is a very serious social problem that generates violence. In this context, Planned unites the population, specialists, and the public power in a serious debate to face the problem", he explained.
