If you are 18 years old or older, you can receive a call from the Ministry of Health and participate in the main survey in the country that measures risk and protective factors for chronic non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancers, obesity, respiratory and heart-related diseases . Data collection, which started last Friday, is for Vigitel 2021, the Surveillance System for Risk Factors and Protection for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey.
In this edition, Vigitel is being carried out through a partnership between the Health Surveillance Secretariat of the Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). By the end of the year, 27 thousand adult Brazilians (aged 18 or over) who have a landline, residing in the 26 capitals and the Federal District, will be interviewed, in order to know the frequency of risk behaviors and for the non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs) in Brazil.
Considering the need to obtain information during the pandemic period, Vigitel 2021 will also investigate questions about morbidity, hospitalization and vaccination for Covid-19, as well as questions about chronic diseases that have been monitored since its first edition (2006), such as diabetes , cancer, cardiovascular diseases, in addition to smoking, unhealthy eating, physical inactivity and alcohol consumption. The average duration of the interview is 12 minutes.
The registration data of telephone service users were shared by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) with the Ministry of Health, under a rigorous process to meet the conditions required by the General Data Protection Law (LGPD), which guarantees confidentiality and protects the population's data privacy.
In case of doubt, just call the Disque Saúde 136, to access more information about the study.

Since its first edition, Vigitel has interviewed 757,386 Brazilians, 288,279 men and 469,107 women, in order to monitor the frequency and distribution of the main determinants of CNCDs. The questionnaire is part of the NCD Risk Factor Surveillance system of the Ministry of Health and has been expanding knowledge about NCDs in the country and supporting the formulation of public policies that promote the improvement of the quality of life of the Brazilian population.
Vigitel's results also support the monitoring of the proposed goals for fighting chronic non-communicable diseases in Brazil, such as the Strategic Action Plan to Combat Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases in Brazil, 2011-2022, in line with the Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of CNCDs, from the World Health Organization, as well as the goals of CNCDs related to the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals, in addition to those contained in the new Action Plan to Combat Chronic Diseases and Non-Communicable Diseases in Brazil 2021- 2030.
