Advance travel planning and advance visa application are important. If you plan to apply for a nonimmigrant visa to come to the United States as a temporary visitor, do so well in advance.

Waiting time for interview

The estimated wait time to receive an interview appointment at a US Embassy or Consulate may change weekly and is based on staff workload.

Qualifications for an accelerated interview

The process for applying for an expedited nonimmigrant visa interview varies by location.

Administrative process

These estimates do not include the time required for administrative processing. When administrative processing is required, the time varies according to the individual circumstances of each case.

Administrative Processing Information

There are only two possible outcomes for US visa applications. The consular officer will issue or refuse the visa. If a visa applicant has not established that he or she is eligible for a visa, the consular officer must refuse that application. However, some refused visa applications may require additional administrative processing. When administrative processing is required, the consular officer will inform the applicant at the end of the interview. The duration of administrative processing varies according to the individual circumstances of each case. At the end of the administrative processing period, the consular officer may conclude that the applicant is already qualified for the visa for which he has applied. The officer may also conclude that the applicant remains ineligible for a visa. Visa applicants are reminded to apply for their visas in advance, well in advance of the expected date of travel.

If US consulate interviews are temporarily unavailable, urgent travel plans can be quickly compromised. Emergency consultations at US consulates seem to be a possible rescue here. We will help you to anticipate your interview at the US consulate, please feel free to contact us at any time!

Before requesting an urgent appointment, be sure to check the availability of consular interviews at US consulates in your home country. Emergency appointments are usually made only if appointments are not available at all locations where you can apply for the desired US visa.

If regular appointments are not available, emergency appointments can be scheduled for the next appointment available at US consulates.

To schedule the first regular appointment. Once the emergency appointment is scheduled, the rest of the application process will proceed as normal and you will be able to prepare for the in-person interview at the US consulate with the appropriate application documents.

It should be noted that the emergency consultation may not necessarily take place at the applicant's preferred location – for example, close to home. The time and, in particular, the place of the request cannot be chosen by the applicant in an emergency consultation. In addition, an urgent consultation can only be requested after having all the necessary documents.

Get ready for the interview

After the National Visa Center (NVC) schedules your visa interview, they will send you an email stating the date and time of the appointment. After receiving an interview appointment letter from the NVC, you must take the following steps BEFORE the interview date.

1. Schedule and complete a medical exam

You (and each family member or “derived applicant” applying for a visa with you) must schedule a medical appointment with an authorized physician in the country where you will be interviewed. This examination must be performed by an embassy-approved physician. Exams performed by other doctors will not be accepted. You must complete your medical examination, along with any required vaccinations, before your scheduled visa interview date. After the examination, the Doctor will send the results of the examination directly to the embassy or give you a sealed envelope. If the doctor gives you an envelope, don't open it. Instead, take it to the visa interview and hand it over to the consular officer.

What happens if you forget to bring something? The consular officer will not be able to complete the processing of your visa. You will have to gather the missing items and deliver them to the embassy or consulate, and you may have to come for additional interviews. Failure to submit all documents may delay the issuance of the visa.
